A Day Late...
...and a new book short...but it's coming soon!
Hello Foxes,
I’m so happy to chat with you again, though I confess today’s email is not the one I’d planned to send this week. As the Beatles famously said, “life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
This was supposed to be release week for Dance With Me, book twelve in the Hotel D series. Unfortunately, life is life-ing in the most obnoxious way. A dear family member had a health crisis, and we’ve had to rearrange our lives on the fly so that Mr. Nika could travel to our hometown to be with them.
I don’t mean to complain, by any means — we are so, so lucky that we can make this work. We would both have been on pins and needles if he couldn’t be there. Getting the information second hand just isn’t the same, you know?
My only disappointment is that this meant pushing back the new release. As much as I wanted to, I just couldn’t make it work. So the new publication date for Dance With Me is April 24. I look forward to sharing it with you then!
In the meantime, here’s a bit of a glimpse into my process.
As a former theater kid, I think it’s important that my characters’ dialogue sound realistic. When it comes time to edit, not only will I have the computer read it back to me, I’ll also reading the text aloud myself. Your eyes can easily glaze over mistakes when you’ve read something a dozen times — but there’s something about hearing the words that makes it easier to catch typos, missed words or other errors.
For your listening pleasure, I recorded myself working on one of the scenes from Chase’s point of view.
Apologies for the very mediocre sound; although I have a fancy microphone, I’ve never actually used it. This was just me and my iPhone in my office after my kid’s bedtime, so I was trying not to be too loud!
(#SorryNotSorry for my terrible British accent. ;-P)
Do you like this sort of thing? Let me know! I’d be happy to figure out the microphone situation so I can do more of this.

That’s all from me for now. As always, I hope you are sage, comfortable, and with those you love.
